Milan, the vibrant and ever-changing metropolis, has always embraced art in all its forms. The last 15 years have seen the rise of Street Art, in fact, there are many works made around the city that have transformed several districts in a veritable open-air museum.
Not everyone knows that the underground scene has also found space at Hyatt Centric Milan Centrale: our hotel hosts 3 colorful and original works: two in its lobby and one located at the restaurant.
A dream called Milan, this is the name of the mural that will welcome you as soon as you cross the threshold of the hotel. The work was created by Elia Barbieri, a young illustrator and graphic designer, initially in digital format and then printed on fabric and enriched with luminous elements. A simple and extremely evocative piece at the same time, with a double key of interpretation. Looking at it as a whole, one can see a human face that refers to the centrality of the individual in the hospitality segment. Looking more closely, a female figure emerges from the lips wearing a wide-brimmed hat, a reference to fashion, while what looks like a beauty mark is actually the iconic Duomo, the city’s milestone. Barbieri was inspired by Roy Lichtenstein’s pop-art, street art and fashion-related illustrators.
The art tour continues, heading to the Intermezzo Lobby Bar, where you can enjoy a delicious cocktail in the company of the most famous supermodel of the 70s: Twiggy. Majestic and colorful, this work by Nabla & Zibe was created using the stencil technique and spray paint. Twiggy, the undisputed symbol of fashion, was chosen to embody the atmosphere of change and freedom that one breathes in today’s Milan. The “brain”, as well as the lines that develop around the model, symbolize the idea of fluid thought, a thought that starting from one person is transferred to another creating synergies and infinite worlds.
The last stop on the tour is the Rivington restaurant on the fourth floor of the building, where the Tree of Life is located, also the brainchild of Nabla & Zibe and the result of a reinterpretation of the homonymous symbol. The interpretation of the two artists is dreamy and seems to suggest the existence of flowering and joyful worlds, which develop outside those pre-constituted and imposed, reported here in the form of a golden cage, the one in which life, politics, religion and history seem to force us.
Hyatt Centric Milan Centrale is therefore a place where not only fun, fashion and food but also art in its most contemporary manifestations find their place.
